Pfc Herbert B. Ronk graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1941 and attended McPherson CollegeHe enlisted in Boise, Idaho on 15 June 1943.
Just before he was sent overseas he was married to Annette Glasier, at Camp Claimore, whom he had met at McPherson College.
