Pvt Orrin H. Carlson enlisted in New York City, New York on 17 February 1943.He received his diploma from Jamaica High School after his enlistment. He studied engineering under the Army Specialized Training Program at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and when it was abolished, he was transferred to the infantry and trained at Camp Clayborne, Louisiana. His brother fought in the South Pacific.
One picture shows the grave of Pvt Carlson with the original wooden cross when the Cemetery still had a temporary status.
