Pvt Maynard F. Simpson enlisted at Fort Thomas Newport, Kentucky on 20 April 1944.
Maynard attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio with a 2 year degree in 1939. Pvt. Simpson was a former teacher in the Union Furnace Schools and taught for several terms before leaving that profession to take employment with the Omar Baking Company. Before moving to Lancaster in 1943, he and his family resided in Hocking County. He was sent overseas in October as a member of a replacement detachement.
