Pfc Joseph C. Blute attended college for three years and was employed at the National Biscuit Company before he joined the Air Corps of U.S. Army Reserve in Boston, Massachusetts on 12 December 1942. He was later transferred to the infantry.

He died after having been stricken ill and hospitalized on the preceding day.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Hochfelden, France.

He is remembered at the Island Pond Cemetery in Harwich, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.
