T/Sgt Dmytro J. Shyka was a mechanic before he joined the National Guard in Bridgeton, New Jersey on 16 September 1940.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his chest and back.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Hochfelden, France.
