Pfc Hugh M. Whitt attended high school for one year and worked on a farm before he enlisted in Dallas, Texas on 13 April 1942.He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Hochfelden, France.
He is also remembered at the Pearl Cemetery in Pearl, Coryell County, Texas.
