Sgt Edmund S. Gajewski was employed at the Allis Chalmers Manufacturing Company before he enlisted.He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. The citation cited: While under mortar and artillery fire and under direct observation from an enemy tank, he reconnoitered for a position from which he could fire on the enemy automatic weapons. He continued firing before he was killed by the enemy.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Hochfelden, France.
