Sgt Robert G. Vargas attended high school for one year and was a mechanic and repairman of motor vehicles at Holmes Garage before he enlisted in Kalamazoo, Michigan on 23 February 1943.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Hochfelden, France.

His brother Richard A. Vargas is buried next to him.
