Pvt Paul H. Barnes attended La Grange High School for four years and was employed at the Diamond T Motor Car Company before he joined the U.S. Army Reserve in Madison, Wisconsin on 16 November 1942. He was sent overseas in September 1944.

His brother Hugh D. Barnes is buried next to him.
