Pfc John T. Connolly Jr. graduated from East High School in 1942. During his educational career, the future soldier excelled in sports. Not only did he play varsity football, but he was also co-captain of the golf team. He worked at a local electrical business.

He enlisted from Boston, Massachusetts on 26 May 1943. He was overseas for only two months when he was killed.
