1st Lt Donald D. Brownell graduated from Greenwich High School and was employed at the Kenwood Mills in Rensselaer.He enlisted in the Regular Army in January, 1941 and was sent overseas in October, 1944.
On 20 December 1944, his unit was closed in on the high grounds in the vicinity of the Schönberg-Radscheid road on the German-Belgian border. He was sent on a reconnaisance patrol to search a way out when he was severely wounded. He was taken prisoner and died of his wounds. According to German records he died on the 21st.
