1st Lt Malcolm C. Lowe was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve Corps of the University of New Hampshire in 1943, where he studied Sociology. He was called up for active duty between 15 February and 1 March 1943 at Fort Devens, Massachusetts.He was married to Patricia Gibson on 14 July 1944 when he was at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.
He was taken prisoner on 21 December 1944 in the vicinity of Schönberg, Belgium and held captive in Oflag VIII-B in Hammelburg.
In the late afternoon of 27 March 1945, Oflag XIII-B was reached by Task Force Baum, attempting to liberate the prisoners. During this raid, 32 men were killed and 256 wounded, missing in action or captured. Lt Lowe was one of the casualties.
