Pfc James E. Cullina was a checker before enlistment.He enlisted at Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 30 March 1944.
He was taken prisoner in the vicinity of Sankt-Vith, Belgium on 21 December 1944 and was imprisoned at Stalag IX-B in Bad Orb, Germany. This camp was liberated on 1 April 1945 by American troops but Pfc Cullina wasn't present. In February 1945 more than 350 American prisoners, Jewish, men lookin Jewish and so called trouble makers, were sent to the Berga concentration camp for forced labor. On 4 April 1945 these prisoners were send on a death march to Bavaria. On 15 April they were in the vicinity of Marktredwitz in Bavaria, Germany.
