He was a graduate of Nicolet High School and the University of Wisconsin medical school. The son of a minister, he served as the President of the Wesley Foundation Methodist campus organization.

A Doctor, Lt Wenberg entered the Army on completion of his internship in Denver, Colorado. He took a three-months course in psychiatry at Columbia University before going overseas two months before his death.

Lt Wenberg died in Stalag 12A. The Germans claim Lt. Wenberg's death was the result of an air raid.
