Capt Clarkson graduated from Fort Myers High School in 1935. While in high school he was a star on the Green Wave football teams and was prominent in other school activities. He attended the University of Florida where he received his military training under the R.O.T.C. After graduation from college, he was employed by G.M.A.C. in Gainesville.He joined the U.S. Army Reserve in December, 1941.
Capt James L. Clarkson first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Foy, Belgium.
