Pfc Bethel was a miner.

He was killed by small arms fire in the head.

Pfc Stuart S. Bethel was initially buried at the civilian cemetery of Bleialf and was disinterred on 10 March 1945. Then, he was buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Foy, Belgium on 13 March 1945. He was again disinterred on 10 September 1948 and his remains were prepared and placed in a casket on 16 September 1948. He was given his final resting place in October 1948.
