Pfc Harold L. Thom attended Joliet High School.He joined the U.S. Army Reserve at Fort Sheridan, Illinois on 17 December 1943.
According to German records, Pfc Thom died in Feldlazarett 257 from gunshot wounds in the stomach and testicle area. This German field hospital was stationed in the schoolhouse of Büdesheim/Eifel at that time. Also according these records he died on 20 December 1944 and was initially buried at the local cemetery.
