More information

T/5 Raymond W. Wise attended grade school at Metea and Delong, Indiana, and graduated from Leiters Ford High School in 1941.

He was employed by the Ball Band Co. in Mishawaka before he enlistedon 28 November in Toledo, Indiana.

He was inducted at Camp Perry, Ohio; received his basic training at Camp Van Dorn, Mississippi and later received training at Camp Maxey, Texas. He was here promoted to technician fifth grade before leaving it on 12 September 1944 for embarkation at New York. On 11 October 1944 he landed in England, spent some time in Liverpool, London, Belgium and several weeks in Viners. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and Germany and was awarded the combat infantryman badge.

During the night on 17 April 1945 Raymond and other soldiers were driving along in convoy with jeeps. They stopped for a rest, because they were so dead-tired. During that rest a German plane opened fire on them, wounding several soldiers who were taken to a barn for first aid. T/5 Raymond W. Wise was the only one who was killed instantly.
