More information

While leading his patrol out of the woods into a clearing Sgt Burdette was wounded by enemy automatic small arms fire. He ordered his members of his patrol to abandon him, which they did. Later the same day and again the next morning patrols thoroughly searched the area but no trace could be found.

His remains were recovered in a shallow grave in 28 March 1945 in Udenbreth, Germany.
