Leon Conrath graduated from Indiana State Laboratory High School and Rose Polytechnic Institute.He enlisted at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 21 October 1941 and received his commission in the fall of 1942 at the Officer's School at fort Benning, Georgia.
He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in recognition of heroic achievement in December 1944.
His brother Joseph served as a Master Sergeant with a photo reconnaissance squadron in England.
