Pfc Woodrow Smith was employed by the State Road Departement of Sarasota.He enlisted at Camp Blanding, Florida on 21 May 1941. He received training at Fort Benning, Georgia and Camp Maxey, Texas. He was sent overseas in September 1944.
He was wounded in action in November 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for the first time.
