Pfc Loren E. Turbett was a stone and brick mason and contractor before he enlisted at Camp Dodge, Iowa on 3 May 1944.

His son Floyd was still a baby which he never had seen.

According to his niece, Lissa Turbett, her mother always said that a local man served with her uncle saved his life when the accident (friendly fire) that took his life.
