Pvt Clay A. Hosmer attended North East High School and worked as a clerk before he enlisted at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on 2 May 1944.

At the time of his death, the 2nd Infantry Regiment was engaged in the fighting in the vicinity of Consdorf-Berdorf, Luxembourg.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Grand Failly, France.
