Ruben R. Hartman joined the Regular Army on 24 April 1939. In 1940. he was sent to Iceland in April 1942 where he was stationed there until August 1944, when he he was sent to England.He was reported wounded in action on Christmas Day in Luxembourg and after being hospitalized in a base hospital somewhere in France he returned to duty on 11 January 1945.
His brothers were also in active duty in the ETO and the South Pacific.
