Pfc Leader R. Thaldorf graduated from Thornton Fractional Township High School.

He attended radio school in Chicago and in March 1943, was sent to the ASTP engineering school in Brookings, South Dakota. Following the discontinuance of the ASTP program nine months later, Thaldorf was transferred to the infantry, receiving his basic training at Fort Leonard Woods, Missouri, San Louis Obispo, California and Fort Meade, Maryland.

He had been overseas since October 1944.
