Pfc Richard J. Stockmaster graduated from St. Bernard's High School and was a chauffeur for the Endslow Cream Station. He enlisted at Fort Thomas, Newport, Kentucky on 4 March 1944 and was sent overseas in August 1944.

He was wounded a first time during the battle of Metz on 28 September 1944. After 3 months of hospitalisation in England, he returned to combat duty in January 1945.

At the time of his death the 2nd Infantry Regiment was engaged in the fighting in the vicinity of Stockem-Schankweiler, Germany.

His brother, Bernard Stockmaster, is buried next to him.
