Sgt Norman S. Showers attended high school for one year and was a craneman.He enlisted in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 18 February 1943. He trained at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Berkley, California and Camp Phillips, Kansas. He was sent overseas in July 1944
At the time of his death, three of his brothers also served: Earl in France, Haven with the Navy, and Ray, also with the Navy, who was soon medical discharged.
His daughter, who he never saw, was still a baby.
