T/Sgt Eugene P. Brinkman attended college and was a reporter for the Chicago Tribune.

He enlisted in the Regular Army in Chicago, Illinois on 7 April 1941.

He was reported wounded in action on 27 July 1944 and returned to his unit on 25 November 1944.

T/Sgt Brinkman was assigned to take out a night patrol. When the patrol was lead right across open ground, a German machine gun opened up. T/Sgt Brinkman was first hit in both legs. He went down and began dragging himself over the ground towards the other members of the patrol. He was spotted again by the machine gun crew and a new burst killed him instantly.
