S/Sgt Joseph F. Russo attended Rockford High School and was employed in the recreation staff at Montague House.He joined the Regular Army in Chicago, Illinois on 8 October 1940. and was sent to Iceland before he was transferred to the European Theater of Operations in 1943.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Champigneul, France.
