Pvt John W. Christopher attended Poughkeepsie High School and was employed by the Western Union and Glenwood Clothes Inc.He enlisted in Albany, New York on 16 June 1943. He served first in the Anti-Aircraft Defenses receiving his training at Camp Stewart, Georgia. and later transferred to the Infantry. After additional training at Camp Pickett, Virginia, he was sent overseas in August 1944.
