S/Sgt Horace E. Hornsby attended Miami High School where he was active in football, baseball and basketball. He was the owner of a drug store.He enlisted at Camp Blanding, Florida on 8 October 1941.
He was awarded his second Bronze Star medal for heroic achievement on 3 December 1944. As a radio operator during an attack against heavily defended enemy positions, he exposed himself to direct enemy fire in order to maintain communications with tank elements.
