Pfc James C. Konyud graduated from John Hay High School in June 1939.He enlisted at Fort Hayes, Ohio on 3 February 1942.
He was officially declared dead one day and one year after he was reported missing in action.
In 2007, a German explosive team found human remains and military equipment in a field between Vossenack and Hürtgen which included a set of Pfc Konyud's identification tags. His remains were identified on 24 August 2009.
Pfc James C. Konyud was laid to rest on 25 September 2010 at Calvary Cemetery, Cleveland.
