Pfc Carl Longmire was employed by Camel's Mobile Gas Station as a service station operator.

He enlisted at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on 17 September 1941 and received his basic training at Camp Croft, South Carolina. He was sent overseas in 1943.

He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. the citation cited: "When the advance of his platoon was halted by terrific fire from two enemy pillboxes to the front, Pfc Longmire, with magnificent disregard for his own safety, advanced alone over open ground in the face of heavy fire in order to spray the pillboxes with sub-machine gun fire. As a result of his action the platoon was able to advance and capture the position."
His brother James E. Longmire was wounded in action in Belgium.
