S/Sgt John R. Weber, 24, was killed in an infantry action Dec. 28 in Germany, the war department advised his wife, the former Arleen Burkett, 909 no. 30th. He also leaves a four months old daughter, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Weber, Havelock; and three brothers, S.Sgt. Irving E. Weber, now in England, and Robert and Everett at home. A graduate of Havelock high school and former printing salesman, John Weber enlisted in August, 1942, was sent to Fort Myers, Va., and then to Fort Benning, Ga., where he was an instructor; and went overseas last June. His unit received a presidential citation, and he himself the purple heart, for gallantry in clearing the Germans from a small village near Brest. Wounded by shrapnel, he treated his own wounds with sulfa drugs and gauze before reporting to an aid station. His unit was cited for maintaining a strategic position near La Haye de Puits.
