Pfc Paul Peternell enlisted in Greensburg, Pennsylvania on 20 November 1942.He was reported missing in action on 9 December 1944. His remains were recovered in July 1981 by Stefan Hoven, in the area of Hill 400.
Pfc Peternell is now buried at Ardennes American War Cemetery.
The picture of the self made grave marker is on the spot were his remains were found in Bergstein, Germany.
Pfc Peternell's brother, ARM2 Edward Peternell, is listed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii.
