Calvin J. Moon joined Signal Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Covington, Kentucky on 18 July 1942. He trained at Camp Crowder, Missouri and qualified as a wire chief, field (skilled) in March 1943. By April 1943 he was stationed in Bradenton, Florida.He was married to Mavis McColskey in July 1944.
In October 1944 he was transferred from the Signal Corps to the Infantry and was shipped to Camp Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. On 21 December 1944 he left Camp Gordon on a 'delay on route' to visit his parents in Independence, Kentucky to say goodbye before leaving on 3 January 1945 to go to Fort Meade, Maryland in preparation for leaving to the European Theater.
He was one of the five brothers who served during the war. Three were wounded and the youngest brother Bernard served in the U.S. Navy and was also killed in action. He is reported missing in action and is remembered at the Walls of the Missing at the American Military Cemetery of Manila.
Calvin Moon is remembered at the Seffner Cemetery in Hillsborough County, Florida.
