More information

Pfc Charlie D. Brown was reported wounded in action on 24 December 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time. After recovering he rejoined his unit.

He was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic service in connection with military operations against the enemy on 18 September 1944 in France. Pvt. Brown volunteered for a patrol into a town ahead of his own lines. While moving toward the town over terrain characterized by minefield, the patrol flanked and captured a German 57-mm. gun and its crew. It also captured 6 German officers from whom it was learned a German company was located a short distance. Commandeering two captured vehicles, they took the command post by surprise and captured the entire company. The action of the patrol resulted in the capture of 12 German officers, 186 enlisted men, the town and quantities of supplies.
