Pvt Robert L. Oberster graduated from East Canton High School and was employed by the Hercules Motors Corp.

He enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 11 November 1943. He trained at Camp Butner, North Carolina and was sent overses in May 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Grand Failly, France.
