Sgt William F. Sowinski attended Olean High School. He was employed at the Fibre Forming Corporation.

He enlisted in Buffalo, New York on 21 April 1941. He was sent overseas in October 1943.

His older brother, Pvt Joseph J. Sowinski was killed in action in March 1943 and is buried at the North Africa American Cemetery in Tunisia, North Africa.
