S/Sgt Joseph F. Mc Shaffery was a graduate of Holy Rosary High School and was employed by S. S. Kresge & Co before entering federal service with the 109th Infantry Regiment in Scranton, Pennsylvania on 17 February 1941. He trained at Indiantown Gap Military Reservation, Camp Livingston, La.; Camp Gordon, Johnston, Fla., and Camp Pickett, Va., going overseas 1943.
