T/5 Arthur Amundsen enlisted on 17 September 1942.He was posthumously awarded several awards and decorations by Brigadier General Michael Stone on 9 July 2013. "Uncle Artie" was awarded a new Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star and a World War II Victory Medal. The presentation was made in Royal Oak, Michigan to Gary Peters, Arthur's great-nephew, and his wife, Colleen Peters.
He was first buried in a temporary grave at Margraten on 4 January 1945. He was disinterred on 19 July 1948 and his remains were prepared and placed in a casket on 22 July 1948. He was given his final resting place on 19 April 1949.
