2nd Lt Donald M. Hoffman attended high school for four years and was employed at Dodge Forge Plant.

He enlisted in the Regular Army in Detroit, Michigan on 9 July 1941. He had been stationed in Santa Cruz where he was with the western defense commission of the coast artillery.
