S/Sgt La Verne J. Wolgast enlisted in Chicago, Illinois on 21 April 1941.

He attended 3 years of high school at East Aurora High School, Illinois and was a stove maker at the Cribben & Sexton Stove Company before he enlisted. His father died in 1920 and his mother later remarried George J. Kaiser.

He was first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery Foy, Belgium.
