Pvt William R. Monk was reported missing in action on 17 September 1944 after an attack on the Siegfried Line in Germany. They met heavy resistance and were overrun by an enemy counter attack.Pvt Monk was officially decleared dead one day and one year after he was reported missing in action.
His brother John Thomas Monk Sr. was killed on 18 April 1945 in a plane crash in West Virginia.
