S/Sgt Raymond L. Olive enlisted in Ontario, California on 3 March 1941.He was already a veteran of the campaigns in North Africa and Sicily.
His brother Richard E. Olive was killed on the USS Maddox on 10 August 1943 off the coast of Sicily and officially declared dead on 11 August 1944. He is remembered at the Tablets of the Missing at the American Military Cemetery of Sicily-Rome in Nettuno, Italy.
The Silver Star was awarded for gallantry in action during the fighting in Germany.
