Maurice Crew graduated from West High School and worked at the Paramount theater in Waterloo and later was employed at a Des Moines theater. He then returned to Waterloo as a manager of the Strand theater and in May 1943, he was named city manager of the Strand and Paramount theaters.He enlisted on 16 March 1944 at Camp Dodge, Iowa and was sent overseas in September 1944.
He joined his unit in November 1944.
