Pfc George A. Jakubs Jr. graduated from Cathedral Latin High School in 1940 and attended Case School of Applied Sciences for one year. He was employed at W.S. Tylor Company.

He enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 10 February 1943. He was selected for the Army Specialized Training Program (A.S.T.P.) and studied at Yale University.
