S/Sgt Joseph Hood attended high school for three years and was a cook before he joined the National Guard in Elizabeth, New Jersey on 16 September 1940.He died in a general hospital from the effects of hepatitis and pneumonia.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Champigneul, France.
