More information
Pfc Archie T. Coffman worked on the family farm before he enlisted in Cincinnati, Ohio on 10 February 1943.The platoon met with intense mortar fire from the enemy and Pfc Coffman was hit. An Army chaplain told the family later that even as he fell mortally wounded, when the medics came to render aid, he motioned for them to help his wounded buddy first. He lost consciousness almost immediately. He had suffered a skull fracture and died a few minutes later.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Hochfelden, France.
He is remembered at the Peavey Cemetery in Liberty, Casey County, Kentucky.
