More information

S/Sgt Robert W. Bourg attended high school for four years and was employed at Douglas Aircraft. He enlisted in Los Angeles, California on 12 December 1942.

"Company's E, F, G & H to the high ground northeast of Lindern. Late in the afternoon we jumped off and in a very short time under cover of marching fire Co. E was in position. It was not to last. Lindern was situated in very flat terrain exposed to artillery, mortars machine gun, and small arms fire. Almost immediately, E Company was submerged into the hottest piece of real estate it had ever experienced before and for the longest time. (Prummern was a close second, but it did not last as long). Fire coming from Linnich, Brachelen was constant and ferocious. My squad leader Sgt. Bourg's body was riddled with shrapnel after warning me to spread further out from his position."
